FAQ

Plastering Questions Answered

Common plastering queries from our Glasgow customers.

How long does plaster take to dry before painting?
New plaster typically takes 4–6 weeks to dry fully before applying a standard paint. However, a mist coat (heavily diluted emulsion) can be applied after about a week to seal the surface while it continues to cure. We'll advise on timing when we complete your job.
Can you plaster over old wallpaper?
We strongly recommend removing wallpaper before plastering as moisture from the plaster can cause the paper to bubble and peel, ruining the finish. We can advise on or assist with wallpaper removal as part of your project.
What is the difference between skimming and re-plastering?
Skimming applies a thin 2–3mm layer of finish plaster over an existing surface to create a smooth finish. Re-plastering involves removing the old plaster entirely and starting from scratch — necessary when plaster is crumbling, damp-damaged, or badly cracked.
Do you handle ceiling repairs and cracks?
Yes — ceiling cracks and patches are something we deal with regularly. Whether it's hairline cracks, a water-damaged area, or a section of loose plaster, we'll repair it seamlessly so the ceiling looks brand new.
